Carer Replacement Breaks Service Review

Surrey has been undertaking a review of its Carer Replacement Breaks Service.

Below is a message from the review sponsors Jane Bremner, Head of Commissioning for Mental Health and Lead for Joint Carers Team, Surrey County Council and Dr Sue Tresman, Independent Carers Lead for Surrey, to update Surrey’s carers on the review’s progress.

In the Autumn of 2023, we approved a review of the Carer Replacement Breaks service, which is funded by the Better Care Fund, commissioned by Surrey County Council (on behalf of the local authority, NHS Surrey Heartlands and NHS Frimley) and provided by Crossroads Care Surrey.

We had received feedback through various routes that the current offer of carer breaks was not meeting the needs of carers in Surrey.

Our commissioned partners, Luminus, were tasked with leading the review; arranging an initial survey to gain feedback from unpaid carers, organising a co-production group and leading co-production and co-design sessions, assisting with a new offer proposal, and checking back with a wider group of unpaid carers who had registered an interest in continued involvement in the review.

You can see Luminus’ report here.

As sponsors of this work, we would like to thank those of you who were involved in any part of the review.

Your time, insights and feedback are greatly appreciated and have helped the Carers Project Team get to the position they are in now in the development of an improved offer to support carers to have a wellbeing break.

Communications about the new service offer will be available in the coming weeks and will be available to view on a number of platforms including Surrey County Council’s website, Surrey Heartlands and Frimley websites and various social media platforms.

We look forward to launching our newly improved offer for carers in Surrey in the Autumn 2024.

With best wishes,

Jane Bremner & Sue Tresman
